Established in 1939, the
Georgia Beer Wholesalers Association (GBWA)
comprises all 50 malt beverage wholesalers in the state of
Georgia.
Georgia's beer wholesalers are primarily family-owned
businesses and are responsible for making sure that beer is
available to consumers in more than 15,000 local stores, hotels,
restaurants and taverns. Because beer is perishable, wholesalers
continuously monitor retail accounts to ensure that only the
freshest product is being sold.

Since the end of Prohibition, malt beverages in Georgia,
as well as the entire United States, have been distributed
according to a three-tier system. The three-tier
system is composed of licensed brewers, wholesalers, and retailers.
The function of the system is to prevent dominance and indirect
control of the market. The three-tier system also provides
competition, consumer choice and a framework for collecting
taxes. |
